The piece of plastic that comes in the middle of the Christmas vinyl. Need to know what its called, what it means...etc. Really anything about it. Is this a design that is exclusive to the band? have a decal on my car of this image. I love it. I want to get it tattooed but need to know more about it first.

I ask this because at the moment I'm overhauling my music collection - replacing the 60s, 70s, and early 80s CDs with 33s and keeping the CDs that are mid 80s to recent (I'm not touching the 50s and prior just yet...shellac LPs look like they're a lot harder to take care of). My only question is what year did compact disc become a more common format than LP? While a lot of modern bands (Pearl Jam, Radiohead) do release on vinyl, I'd like to go easier on myself and just collect LPs up to a point.
